Lawrence’s character portrays the “ne’er-do-well” who answers a Craigslist ad that was placed to hire a date for an introverted and socially awkward teen boy, by his mother and father, who also just so happens to be preparing for college soon.
Maddie (Jennifer Lawrence) is an Uber driver who loses her job because her car is repossessed. As a livelihood alternative, she answers an ad of a couple to help their teenage son. Maddie’s new job is to be the academic-oriented teen’s (Andrew Barth Feldman) girlfriend of sorts, with duties including dating him until he manages to wring out his social ineptitude.
