The extraordinary and chilling story of career conman Robert Freegard who masqueraded as an MI5 agent and fooled people into going into hiding, and the woman who fell for him, and then brought him down.

Freegard, directed by Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson, is a docudrama about Robert Hendy-Freegard (James Norton), who tricked people into believing he was an MI5 agent. While working as a barman and used car salesman, he lured victims into believing that his or their life was in danger, often from the IRA. In doing so, he swindled them out of their money and vehicles, often convincing them to go into hiding with him. While doing so, he seduced several women, ultimately taking their savings and possessions. The film covers this, as well as his conviction and supposed reform.
