Pippy’s quest is the project where 9 classes of our kindergarten are directly involved: 200 children, 18 pre-school teachers and 1 language teacher.

ABOUT OUR KINDERGATEN

The Galjevica kindergarten is a public educational institution for preschool education, which was founded by the Municipality of Ljubljana- capital of Slovenia. It started operating independently on 1st September, 2004 and it works on four locations on the south east of Ljubljana. There are 23 classes with 404 pre-school children (aged 1-6 years) and 74 employees.

WHAT IS COMMON TO ALL THE HOUSES OF THE GALJEVICA KINDERGARTEN?
The common educational environment of the Galjevica Institution is co-created by the Galjevica and the Orlova units, as well as by the Dolenjska cesta and the Pot k ribniku locations. The facilities vary in size. The Galjevica and the Orlova units are bigger facilities, whilst the Dolenjska cesta and the Pot k ribniku locations are smaller, yet pleasant housing units. The houses of the kindergarten are situated in the peaceful, green area in the southern part of Ljubljana, between Golovec and the Ljubljana marshes, not far from the lively city centre.

We are a kindergarten consisting of 23 fully occupied playrooms at four locations, which in a respectful manner and with cooperation create a warm and safe environment for children, parents, and employees. Our educational work is aimed at a child, whilst in the planning and evaluating processes we stem from the needs and the developmental level of a child.

CLOSE COOPERATION WITH PARENTS
•We organize events for both parents and children.
•We keep parents regularly informed about the activities in the kindergarten as well as of their child’s progress.
•We ensure the two-way communication and the flow of information about a child as well as for a child.

POSITIVE ATTITUDE TO HEALTH
•Providing various activities we encourage the integrated development of a child which is based on his positive self-esteem.
•With planning and preparing balanced menus the children in the kindergarten enjoy healthy and diverse diets.
•We organize various physical activities, also in cooperation with the outside institutions.
•We carefully plan the outdoor stay and physical activities.
•In cooperation with the Vič-Rudnik Health Centre we ensure the dental-care prevention of children.

ECOLOGICAL AWARENESS
•We separate waste and save energy sources (water, electricity).
•We become familiar with the topics of early Natural Science – exploring a meadow with all our senses.
•We use waste material for art workshops and for creative production of new toys.
•By collecting waste paper and PVC caps we participate in charity campaigns.

CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION
•We organize artistic workshops (painting and drawing, clay modelling, ethno-musical workshops, a choir, etc.).
•We encourage project work with children.
•We are constantly improving e-communication with parents and the wider local environment.

THE EUROPEAN DIMENSION
•We are raising awareness about the national identity within each child by encouraging folk tradition (ethno-musical workshops; weekly we include traditional Slovenian dishes into the menus).
•We integrate the familiarity with a foreign language into the sections of the second age group 4-6 years old (foreign language is English and EU comenius partners languages).
•We create partnerships with kindergartens and schools in the wider EU environment (Comenius: multi-school partnerships).
